WSOU Highlights Food Drive

Plans expanded effort in 2015

From our “Stations Doing Good” department: Student-run WSOU(FM) at Seton Hall University recently ran a food drive, gathering nonperishable food to benefit the Community FoodBank of New Jersey.

The station is heard in New York and northern New Jersey, and is on iHeartRadio. Shown from left, student staff members Brian Uzzo, Steve Varsanyi and Erica Szczepaniak pose with Chief Engineer Frank Scafidi and food secured during the food drive for the Community FoodBank of New Jersey.

“Spearheaded by Station Manager Erica Szczepaniak, the drive secured hundreds of pounds of food as well as monetary donations,” WSOU said in a statement. “The donations came primarily from students at the station and on Seton Hall campus.”

Szczepaniak was quoted saying WSOU “felt it was important to use the power of radio to get people involved in helping others.” He cited a statistic that 900,000 people in the state rely on food banks.

“WSOU will expand its efforts in 2015 to bring greater awareness to problem of food insecurity in the garden state,” he said.
