WTBH, FCC Settle in Underwriting Case

The FCC reached agreement with a Florida noncom in a case involving underwriting acknowledgements.

The FCC reached agreement with a Florida noncom in a case involving underwriting acknowledgements.

WTBH(FM) in Chiefland is licensed to Long Pond Baptist Church. The case dates to a complaint in 2005 that the station had aired prohibited underwriting announcements. An investigation revealed apparent violations with regard to certain announcements that appear to have “exceeded the bounds of what is permissible and within licensee discretion under the Act and pertinent Commission precedent.”

Long Pond admitted for the purpose of the decree that the complaint could establish a violation; it agreed to pay $250 and adopt a compliance plan involving regular review of announcements, staff training and client education. The FCC has dropped its investigation. The station’s license renewal application also has been pending during this time.
