WWLS Tees Off With Bob Barry Jr. Memorial
In honor of local sportscaster, benefits veterans groups
Oklahoma City’s WWLS(FM), a Cumulus Media property, has scheduled an annual golf event in memory of Bob Barry Jr. (pictured), local sportscaster and long-time host at the sports talk station.
The inaugural Bob Barry, Jr. Memorial Golf Classic is scheduled for Aug. 8, at The Greens Country Club in Oklahoma City. A portion of the proceeds will go to veterans groups Warriors for Freedom and Folds of Honor.
Barry passed away in June, 2015. He had been with the station for decades, hosting the “Sports Morning” show since 1993.
The event will feature two rounds of team golf.
Barry’s widow, Gina, said “When the family was approached about creating an event months ago, we couldn't think of a better way to celebrate and honor Bobby. He loved doing his daily show on WWLS, cherished talking sports with his callers, and was always championing our service men and women. … This will be a great event and a perfect opportunity for everyone to get together, enjoy some golf, and share favorite stories and memories of Bobby.”
