XM Canada is going to raise subscription rates by $2 a month, to $14.99, in September.
One Canadian dollar is about 88 cents U.S., which puts the new monthly subscription fee at about $13.20 U.S.
Parent company Canadian Satellite Radio Holdings made the decision after posting a more than $20 million loss in the latest quarter, which ended May 31. The satcaster reported revenue of $2.3 million for the same period.
Current subscribers and new subscribers who sign an agreement with XM Canada before that date will receive the service for the current monthly fee of $12.99 until Sept. 1, 2007. And any subscriber who signs a Multi-Year Package receives a further discount.
XM Canada says it has 80,000 subscribers.
