For the first quarter of 2003, XM will add more than 130,000 net subscribers for the period. It still expects to reach more than 1 million subs by year-end. The company expects to introduce a family subscription plan in April. This replaces the current plan in which every member of a household needs to buy a separate subscription, and, those who want to buy the plug and play and use it in both the car or at home have needed to buy 2 subs. Under the family plan, after purchasing the primary XM radio subscription, additional subscriptions would be reduced to $6.99 a month (down from $10/month).
