XM Satellite Radio is wasting no time in planting its flag in Los Angeles, saying with its nine channels of country programming, it’s the format leader in that city.
Given that KZLA(FM) dropped country, XM says it will now sponsor “Country Bash ’06,” which is scheduled to feature Gretchen Wilson, Phil Vassar and SHeDAISY. The event is in October at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Los Angeles.
KZLA was the only country-formatted station in the market.
Eric Logan, XM’s executive vice president of programming, stated: “By sponsoring Country Bash ’06, XM is sending a message loud and clear to country fans in Los Angeles and across the country: XM Radio loves country music, and XM is the best place for you to hear country music.”
