Zack and Jim Go to Afghanistan

WACO morning show heads overseas

The “Zack and Jim Morning Show” on WACO(FM), ruling the roost in Waco, Texas, for 21 years, is heading for Afghanistan next week.

No, it’s not because their ratings suddenly tanked and they joined the Army, it’s because they’ll be doing a remote broadcast all next week from the country. Waco is not far from Ft. Hood (and a number of other bases that populate Central Texas), and the station has had a long relationship with the base and military personnel. The duo went to Afghanistan in 2011 and twice broadcast from Iraq — 2008 and 2009.

Zack Owen said, “I’ve been given a tool and opportunity to give back since I’m not in the service. I get to bring a little piece of home to our soldiers and then send a little piece of them over the air to their families back at home.”

A release adds that the hosts “sit down with soldiers who are currently serving in Afghanistan to talk about life on duty as well as send personal sentiments to family and friends back home in Texas.”
