Where does CBS Radio stand in the process of updating its EAS gear to comply with the pending regulatory deadline for CAP compliance?
I asked Senior VP of Engineering Glynn Walden, as part of my blog series on how radio companies are handling EAS.
“Dan Mason and CBS supports radio’s EAS role in supplying emergency information to the American people,” Glynn emailed me back.
“Our participation helps fulfill radio’s obligation to operate in the public interest.”
Walden said CBS has ordered all necessary EAS equipment for its 130 stations, and most of the units have been delivered.
As you know from other RW stories, some organizations are pressing to have that deadline extended, but CBS will be ready regardless.
“The equipment is being installed and we expect no problems having all of the CBS stations CAP-compliant before the Sept. 30 deadline,” Walden said. CBS is using Sage Systems gear from its preferred vendor SCMS.
Any special considerations or problems at CBS?
“Most stations had the older Sage equipment,” Walden concluded, “and the installation of the new CAP-compliant Sage box was almost as simple as unplug the old unit and plug in the new one and set up the options.”
