Radio Talk

Isn’t always about radio

This blog is called Off the Beaten Path because I frequently find just unusual or off-beat items to talk about. Thought it’s on the Radio World website, it’s not always “radiocentric.” This time, we’ll focus on all sorts of radio items.

Radio Discussions
If you want to read blogs about individual radio markets, this site provides a lot of insight into particular markets. It’s laid out so things are easy to find.

Minneapolis/St. Paul Radio
If you’re interested in this particular market, here’s a great site with a lot of airchecks, old audio, and history from Minnesota.

Ohio Broadcasting
This is like the gossip column for Ohio radio and broadcasting. Unfortunately, it shut down about 1 1/2 years ago, but it is a good site to look up the things that happened prior to that. Fortunately the site owner has kept it operational, just not updated. There are a couple of links on this page to other currently active Ohio radio blogs and websites.

Broadcast Jobs
Though I think the best place to find radio/TV engineering jobs is through the sbe.org website, Media Bistro has job ads for writers, producers, accountants, reporters and managers.

Casey Kasem Petition
This is still an active petition to get Casey Kasem into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. It hasn’t gotten a lot of support which might be because Casey was considered more “pop” than “rock” … or it might be because not many have seen the petition. Anyhow, your call on this.

And finally …
Any of us over about 50 years old probably remember “Candid Camera” with Allen Funt. He was great with getting some funny answers when interviewing kids with his “Candid Kids.” Here are some really funny test answers from kids.

If you stumble across a good or unusual web site that might be of interest, please don’t hesitate to send me the link and any info you might have about it. My email address is dan_slentz@yahoo.com.
