Radio — 95+ Years in the Making

What a long, strange trip it’s been

Radio has such a fascinating history from stories of Tesla to Armstrong, de Forest to Sarnoff. Some are sad, some read like a soap opera, while many are just simply inspiring! This week we’ll look into some of radio’s past with these links.

Generation Radio
This is a surprisingly useful radio history that was actually a senior thesis for a college student.

Radio Sounds From the Past
Here’s a great website “to get lost in.” There are a lot of great links to radio’s past from the earliest radio slogans to specific stories related to radio’s history.

Around Radio
I have found Scott Fybush’s website with towers, antennas and in-depth stories to be interesting. If you’ve seen the tower calendars, they come from here.

Prior to Wireless … There Was Wired!
Here’s a link to an incredible group of pictures from the “pre-wireless” days. Some really great shots here!

And finally …
Mercedes Benz had an interesting concept car to show this past January at CES. It’s always neat to see what the auto manufacturers foresee as our future being behind the wheel (IF it has one). I still want a flying DeLorean with a Mr. Fusion … but this one isn’t too shabby either.

If you stumble across a good or unusual web site that might be of interest, please don’t hesitate to send me the link and any info you might have about it. My email address is dan_slentz@yahoo.com.
