NAB Sneak Peek: Wheatstone Calls on PhoneBlade for Talk Shows

New product combines studio AoIP and VoIP technology for multihost shows

Wheatstone is bringing the PhoneBlade VoIP telephone system to Las Vegas for its inaugural NAB Show appearance. It’s the newest product of the the WheatNet-IP Intelligent Network.

The 1RU PhoneBlade is intended to combine modern studio AoIP technology and VoIP phone technology for multihost talk shows. It offers two network connections: one for SIP phone providers and the other for connecting directly into the WheatNet-IP audio network without an interface.

The system includes up to 24 lines, which appear as sources/destinations in the WheatNet-IP Navigator software, and are available on WheatNet-IP console surface and monitor selectors in the system. Each line can be set up for a number of shows or applications.

PhoneBlade offers an optional call controller hardware panel to interface with some Wheatstone IP console surfaces. Its controller panel features OLED displays for line status indication and a dial keypad, recording capability, profanity delay dump, answer next, hold, busy all and drop call buttons. Functions can also be controlled using Wheatstone’s SS-8 Smart Switch panel or GP-series button panels.

The system is compatible with all the major voice codecs, including G.711, G.722 and Opus, for high-quality voice on multiple platforms, including mobile devices and webRTC.
