Access Reporter Codec for Android Is Free

Comrex utility is 'another tool in the toolbox'

Comrex Corp. will unveil its new Access Reporter Codec for Android at the NAB Show.

ARC is a free utility that allows certain Android-based mobile phones to make wideband audio calls to Comrex Access and BRIC-Link codecs.

“Once installed on an approved phone, the ‘app’ displays the familiar Access interface and outgoing call directory,” the company states. “ARC makes an IP call over the phone’s 3G or Wi-Fi channel to the selected Access or BRIC-Link codec in the studio using a high-quality wideband, full-duplex audio channel between the two devices.”

Managing Director Kris Bobo stated, “Even though we don’t recommend using mobile phones for pro broadcast applications, we realize that there is a broad range of Comrex users, some of whom find this functionality useful.” She called it a simple utility, “just another tool in the toolbox.”

Access and BRIC-Link customers who have a Comrex-approved Android phone can download the app and connect via the phone’s 3G or Wi-Fi to their codec.

Attendees can also register to win a Google Nexus One Smartphone by taking a “Geek Check” Quiz in the booth.
