Auralex Gets the ‘Mud’ Out

Looking somewhat like an accordion on a stick, Auralex’s MudGuard is a semicircular portable segment of sound absorbing material designed to partially envelope a microphone. It can be placed on a mic stand.

MudGuards measure 18 x 15 x 7.5 inches and are available in lovely speckled Battleship Gray. They ship with mic stand mounting hardware.

Part of Auralex’s ISO family of isolation products and initially intended for studio use, the MudGuard would be useful at remotes where crowd noise or nearby machinery or noise sources (aka “mud”) are impinging.

Eric Smith, founder and president of Auralex Acoustics, commented on their portability and ease of use; he said the use of Studiofoam helps prevent unwanted sound and other elements from leaking into a recording.
