Comrex has announced a firmware update for its Access codecs.
Version 2.8 of the firmware adds 4G compatibility. Comrex Technical Director Tom Hartnett said: “The 2.8 Beta release for Access will include support for Clear’s 4G Mobile USB modem and Verizon’s Pantech UML290 4G USB modem. Based on our initial testing and customer feedback, we feel these new 4G data services will significantly enhance our users’ remote broadcast experiences above and beyond that of existing 3G networks.”
On the AAC front, new Access codecs, which include the 2.8 firmware, will enjoy new Fraunhofer-licensed AAC algorithms. Current Access owners downloading the 2.8 firmware upgrade will have to pay a “nominal fee” to unlock the codecs.
Comrex Managing Director Kris Bobo said: “We feel our customers will benefit from this addition to Access by providing the most efficient, highest quality audio compression available.”
