ERTU Deploys dira! System

Fail-safe automation and archive enables consistent operation

Photo by Yael Wasin Following a three-month operational test, broadcaster Egyptian Radio and Television Union deployed the completed Scisys dira! radio automation system and dira! digital radio archive installation.

“The new system tightly integrates all involved radio sub-systems of our broadcast operation,” said Amira Sharabia, head of the central directorate for studio projects.

ERTU now has one of the largest broadcast radio systems in the region, made up of 40 production studios, 21 on-air-studios and 125 workstations for daily production, scheduling and playout for 50 national and international programs, running 24 hours a day, seven days a week in multiple languages.

To facilitate regional studios communication with the headquarters in Maspero, dira! Mediapool is used as a Web client to download and upload material via the Web or a mobile 3G connection.

The dira! broadcast solution enables ERTU to stay on-air as scheduled because of a dedicated recovery system at a second site that serves as a fail-safe.

An essential part of the system is the digital audio archive, which is a hard-disk based storage system that integrates with the production system and is accessed using the dira! Highlander client. The archive stores up to 190,000 hours of audio.
