Harris will introduce Intraplex SynchroCast3, a third-generation simulcasting product for radio broadcasters with overlapping transmitters.
The system uses the Intraplex T1/E1 multiplexer or NetXpress IP multiplexer platform with GPS digital timing to help a transmitter network increase coverage areas and reduce interference, especially in geographical regions with difficult terrains, according to Harris.
SynchroCast3 improvements include higher frequency sampling, new alert/alarm reporting features, simplified management and easy integration into existing SynchroCast installations. The solution features a more efficient use of network bandwidth by the timing system, allowing users to allocate additional bandwidth to voice and data transmission, says Harris.
With SynchroCast3, radio operators can install a simulcast radio system on a single channel or an entire radio system without having to install a completely new system. For legacy point-to-point systems, SynchroCast3 uses T1 or E1 transmission lines available from telco carriers or through private networks. These can be traditional land-based or microwave links.
The company estimates the product will begin shipping this spring.
