The Zoom R8 is a throwback to those old analog cassette-based multi-track recorders but with additional features that digital technology can make possible.
The R8 is a tiny two-track record/eight-track playback digital recorder, using SD cards as media. Recording is 16–24-bit/44.1–48 kHz native or up to 96 kHz software-aided. It has eight full faders on its miniature control surface along with an LCD screen. Two XLR-1/4-inch combo jacks bring in live audio. A USB port is available for interfacing with a computer or USB audio interface.
Other features include pad sampler, onboard DSP effects, 48 V phantom power, jog/shuttle wheel, tape-style transport controls, Mackie control emulation and battery/USB/AC operation. The R8 ships with Steinberg Cubase LE DAW software and 500 drum loops and 500 MB of additional drum patterns.
Samson Vice President of Sales James Tsaptsinos said: “The R8 will fit in a guitar case, for a flexible, multi-track solution.”
