IBiquity Reference Design Is Aimed at Expanding Supply of Portables

Technology company also cites growing number of factories now offering production capabilities

IBiquity Digital, fresh off a round of technical sessions for manufacturers in China, told attendees about its announcements at the recent Hong Kong Consumer Electronics Fair. It also continued to promote the message that the number of companies able to build HD Radio-related products is blossoming.

The company is offering licensed developers a “major update” to its reference design for battery-operated portables.

This “developers’ package” includes schematics, bill-of-material, layout and software. The company’s Jeff Jury called it a milestone for development of portable products because it lets manufacturers save time and costs as well as minimize power consumption.

The number of companies licensed to develop HD Radio receiver components and products has passed 140; and 23 factories now offer HD Radio product production capabilities, up from three in 2005. Among them: baseband chip manufacturers, tuner chip manufacturers, test equipment developers, test centers, software developers, module developers, manufacturing houses and receiver developers and brands.
