Audio equipment manufacturer Mackie has a new gizmo out — a mixer that uses a smartphone as a control surface.
The ProDX family comes in two sizes, the four-channel ProDX4 and eight-channel ProDX8. Mackie’s MixerConnect controller app for Android and iOS smartphones turns the phone into a control surface for the mixer hardware. It provides for control of channel levels, routing, EQ and other effects.
The connection is wireless via Bluetooth so the smartphone only needs to be near the ProDX to interface with it. Backing tracks can also be received via Bluetooth by the ProDX.
The hardware features Mackie’s Wide-Z microphone preamps. Connectors are XLR-1/4-inch combo jacks with 1/4-inch outputs. An aux 1/8-inch input is also available.
Prices: ProDX4 — $259.99; ProDX8 — $389.99.
