NAB Sneak Peek: Comrex Accesses 4G

STAC-VIP and BRIC get upgrades

For 2014, codec maker Comrex has optimized the Access 2USB codec (shown) for 4G networks. Access 2USB codecs now ship with AAC algorithms, BRUTE (BRIC UDP Transmission Enhancement) and the company’s new Switchboard traversal server to provide users with a complement of tools to help get remote broadcasts on the air. These will be featured at the NAB Show in April.

The STAC-VIP VoIP telephone talk show system is compatible with HD Voice-quality calls and can handle Skype calls. The STAC-VIP caller management system will integrate with a station’s VoIP PBX system.

In addition, Comrex announced that its BRIC Traversal Server service for the Access and BRIC-Link IP codecs has been upgraded and rebranded as Comrex Switchboard Traversal Server.

According to a release, Comrex migrated existing BRIC-TS accounts to the new Switchboard TS on Jan. 28 and the changeover would be seamless for existing users.

The company says that users should see a better GUI and “two main improvements to the management tools in Switchboard” that will aid in managing groups of Access and BRIC-Link codecs.
