Transmitter manufacturer Nautel is shipping the VS line of low-power FM transmitters.
The family has a number of features unusual for what is normally a bare-bones product category. Of note is IP-connectivity options and compatibility with Axia Audio’s Livewire network protocol.
Nautel’s John Whyte said: “Even though the VS Series is an entry-level, low-power transmitter, it probably has the largest brain of any transmitter we’ve ever produced. Its whole front end is IP-based; that means IP audio streaming in, for example Livewire or Shoutcast, and the same AUI control interface that we build into our flagship NV Series transmitters.” AUI is the company’s Advanced User Interface.
The analog VS line is available in 300 W, 1 kW and 2.5 kW powers with an HD Radio/DRM add-on available.
Filters and many parts are field-replaceable with access via common tools. An onboard exciter is included.
According to Nautel the VS units are designed to handle the often less-than-optimal conditions of low-power facilities.
