From Radio World’s “Who’s Buying What” page: A new news network option for radio stations, Radio Network News, began operating in the U.S. with Radio.Cloud’s NewsCloud platform.
NewsCloud is a browser-based service that allows an anchor to produce different versions of a newscast each hour and send them out “in a matter of seconds,” according to Radio.Cloud.
Radio.Cloud said the service is intended to allow journalists to serve listeners with updated and relevant news specific to their locale each hour.
Stations can receive different versions of a newscast made up of the same main workparts. Once production is complete, the news profiles are stitched together and available to preview before file-based distribution.
The platform also includes NewsCloud Editorial, which uses RSS feeds and news wires and sources connected to a central pool. A team can create filters, folders and send news stories to the NewsCloud dashboard.
Using an AI model, anchors and producers can rewrite long stories from wires in the platform. AI summarizes the story into two to three sentences of broadcast-ready copy. The platform also offers the ability to create actualities with an AI voice in stories where there are no sound bites.
Live Channel USA launched Radio News Network via a bridge service for U.S. stations on May 23. It will use the NewsCloud system to produce customized updates designed to feel more like a regional partner.
Radio.Cloud Account Director Andrew Scaglione said that NewsCloud predates Radio.Cloud and is used by networks in Europe.
“With the end of CBS News Radio, we’re excited to step in and provide RNN with all the tools to offer custom, local newscasts to stations,” Scaglione said in a release.
Live Channel USA is based in Daytona Beach, Fla. and works to bring content to FAST channels on connected television services.
