RCS Software will integrate support for the TagStation system in its automation products — another building block in NextRadio’s market outreach.
RCS said this will make it easier for its NexGen and Zetta stations to deliver music and on-air programming information, enhanced spot and promotional info to listeners who use the NextRadio smartphone app.
TagStation is part of Emmis Communications; it developed the NextRadio app with partial funding from NAB Labs. The app provides local FM listening on equipped smartphones and tablets, and adds enhanced and interactive Internet data functions if stations offer those. The app’s backers have been pushing for market uptake, seeking broadcaster participation with enhanced data offerings and carrier participation on the smartphone end.
In the announcement, Philippe Generali, president/CEO of RCS, was quoted saying, “We know the impact of NextRadio is going to be tremendous.”
