Roland has a new entrant in the handheld digital recorder game with the R-26. Price: $599.
Sporting an X/Y mic configuration and a pair of omnidirectional microphones, the R-26 can record six tracks at one time.
If the onboard microphones are deemed unworthy or can’t be used, XLR-1/4-inch combo jacks are available for external mics (48V phantom power is available).
WAV/BWF up to 24-bit/96 kHz or MP3 128/320 kbps recordings are saved on an SD card. There is a two-second recording buffer, an onboard limiter and low-cut filter. The R-26 can be battery operated (AA).
The LCD screen is large. A USB port allows for offloading of recorded files without having to remove the SD card. Ships with Cakewalk Sonar LE software.
