Sound Devices, maker of petite though tough mixers and preamps for field work, has a new field mixer available.
The $749 MixPre-D is a dual channel microphone/line preamp with analog and AES digital XLR connectivity. It offers 48V and 12V powering. Each channel has a high-pass filter, 80 Hz or 160 Hz, input limiter along with a level control. M/S is included. Metering is courtesy of two 16-segment LED meters.
The AES digital output offers 44.1 kHz, 48 kHz or 96 kHz sample rates. A mini USB connector allows for recording and monitoring with a computer or USB drive. A slate mic, tone generator and TA3 output bow to camera operators. An aluminum case gives the MixPre-D a solid feel. A headphone output is available. Powering options are battery (AA) or external 10VDC–18VDC.
