Volvo Makes HD Radio Standard for 2009 Models

Speck predicts other carmakers will follow suit.

Volvo this week said it’s the first automaker to offer HD Radio as standard equipment in nearly all of its 2009 models.

The running change becomes effective next month on the 2009 Volvo model lineup, excluding the S60. The XC60, due in stores in March, also will have HD Radio as standard equipment.

Volvo Cars of North America President/CEO Doug Speck said adding HD Radio capability to its vehicles makes Volvo audio systems state-of-the-art. He predicted other automakers will follow.

The 2009 Volvo cars model lineup includes the S40 and its wagon counterpart the V50; the XC90; the S60 sedan; the S80 luxury sedan; V70 wagon and XC70 (Cross Country); the C70 retractable hardtop convertible and the C30.
