Wowza Releases Media Server 3.5

More security, scalability and an audio-only option available

Internet media software developer Wowza has released version 3.5 of its popular Media Server software.

According to the company the new version “features more content protection options, greater scalability, audio-only transcoder pricing and Push Publishing AddOns.”

Wowza says that “more content protection options include additional third-party digital rights management integration, the incorporation of MediaSecurity and Wowza StreamLock AddOn, which provides near-instant provisioning of free 256-bit Secure Sockets Layer certificates to more easily stream using RTMPS.”

Additionally, according to the company, “For greater scalability Wowza Media Server 3.5 now uses HTTP origin to fulfill requests from HTTP caching infrastructures.” It also “offers Live Stream Record in the core product, which allows administrators to record and automatically split in-process live stream recording archives into multiple files based on content video duration, clock time, or file size.”

The new Wowza has a cheaper “audio-only” option that will utilize adaptive bitrate H.264 encoding.

For better management, Wowza says, the Push Publishing AddOn now supports publishing to downstream Wowza Media Servers, Adobe Media servers and CDNs using Real Time Messaging Protocol, Real-Time Transport Protocol and MPEG Transport Stream Protocol. It also includes support for publishing to downstream Wowza servers running Wowza Media Server 3.5 using the new Wowza Messaging Protocol. Push Publishing AddOn is configurable through XML.
