Your iPod, at Home in the Rack

Middle Atlantic brings out custom mounts for docks

Though they are practically ubiquitous, iPods and assorted music players have yet to penetrate broadcast equipment racks.

Until now, perhaps.

Rack and studio furniture maker Middle Atlantic has a new part group for its RSH series of custom rack shelves, specifically designed for docks. The RSH Web page has a searchable database of products with which the shelves can be used; and if the desired dock is not listed in the database, the user can ship to dock to the factory, where it can be measured and the information saved.

The rack shelf faces are custom-cut, specific to each brand of mobile device dock, for a neat finished look. They are also designed not to obscure IR remote control receivers or block ports. Rear panel includes a brush grommet cable pass-through where USB and other cabling would trail. The included rear-mounted shelf facilitates cable management and holds power bricks and other small components.

The 4RU face size handles most brands of iPod docks and other music players. Depending on the size of the dock, faces may be custom-cut to fit multiple docks side by side.

Also available is a fully integrated rackmount dock specifically for iPods and iPhones; audio and video outputs for each dock are provided, and single- and triple-dock models are available. The line is compatible with iPhone 3GS/3G, iPhone, iPod classic, iPod touch, iPod touch 2G, iPod nano, nano 2G, nano 3G, nano 4G and iPod 5G.
