70% of New Cars in UK Come With DAB Radios as Standard Equipment

LONDON�Data from industry analysts CAP, and the SMMT, are indicating that fully 70 percent of new cars being sold in the UK are coming with DAB radios as standard equipment.�

This represents a 28 percent year to year increase compared to 2014 and a 38 percent year to year increase as compared to 2013.� In the last 12 months 1.6 million cars have been sold with digital radio as standard equipment, according toradiotoday.co.uk. The top 10 new cars sold this year all have digital radio fitted as standard with the Vauxhall Corsa being the latest model to go digital as standard.

�The growth of digital radio in cars is linked to the increase of digital listening which now represents nearly 40 percent of all listening, and the expansion of digital coverage and content,� according to the same article.

Addressing a parliamentary reception to celebrate UK radio in the House of Commons today, Ed Vaizey, the UK Minister of State for Culture and the Digital Economy, praised the progress made by the vehicle manufacturers. He was quoted thus: �I am pleased to announce that 70 percent of new cars now come with digital radio as standard � that�s excellent progress and demonstrates the support of vehicle manufacturers for digital radio.�
