Audi Adds RadioDNS Hybrid Radio to A8

Drivers can opt to have the vehicle switch between broadcast and IP automatically, or do so manually

INGOLSTADT, Germany Automaker Audi has announced that it will adopt RadioDNS standards for its new line-fit hybrid radio platform, beginning with its model A8.

According to the release, Audis hybrid radio implementation features a single intelligent station list that automatically selects the best way to listen to a station (FM, DAB or streaming), so presets are effective even outside of the broadcast coverage area.

Drivers can opt to have the vehicle switch between broadcast and IP automatically, or do so manually. (The internet component of the hybrid radio experience can use a SIM card embedded in the car.)

Additionally, the receiver adjusts time delays and audio levels to smooth transitions.

RadioDNS standards also automatically update station logos for those that participate by publishing their metadata and content and are displayed on the large high-resolution touchscreen display used for station navigation.

Internet services come and go in the consumer world. To build a hybrid radio which will function throughout a cars lifecycle, we decided to use the ETSI technical standards created by RadioDNS, Audi Infotainment Development engineer and RadioDNS steering board member Christian Winter said in the release.
