GERMANY
Bayerische Rundfunk (the public broadcaster in Bavaria) turned up another DAB+ multiplex transmitter at Altenstadt on the Waldnaab (Upper Palatinate) on July 13 for the regional radio network.
Throughout Bavaria, the DAB+ transmitter network now encompasses to 51 locations providing nearly 90% of the people in Bavaria with a signal that can be received indoors. Outdoor reception is at about 97% of Bavaria, and coverage along the highways is at 99%, according to infosat.de.
NORTHERN IRELAND
In Northern Ireland, use of digital sources for radio continues to grow, but at a slower rate than seen in the rest of the UK. A 5% year-over-year increase was recorded in the share of radio listening to digital radio in Northern Ireland, reaching 35% of all listening hours by the start of 2018. That level is considerably lower than the UK overall, which is now at about 51%, according to Belftasttelegraph.co.uk.
Half of all adults in Norther Ireland now own a DAB radio, up from 23% in 2013, although this is still lower than the UK average of 64%.
SLOVENIA
In Slovenia, the Agency for Communication Networks and Services (Akos) granted five new licenses to radio broadcasters Radio Net FM, Radio Veseljak, Radio Maxi, Radio Univox and Radio Student for distribution using digital radio technology throughout Slovenia, according to telecompaper.com.
These organizations must start broadcasting within three months after the authorizations are finalized. In the interim period they must work out agreements with digital network operator RTV Slovenija regarding the details of transmission.
With the latest additions, a total of 18 radio stations have licenses to broadcast in DAB+ in Slovenia.
