In Germany, DAB+ Use Now Exceeds Satellite, Cable and Internet Radio

BERLIN � The number of Germans who own a DAB+ radio has grown to over 11 million, and on average, 2.5 million people listen to the service each day, according to an annual survey by distributor Media Broadcast and radio broadcasters and associations,�telecompaper.com�reports.

About one quarter of radio receivers in the home and cars support DAB+, and the digital format accounts for 14% of daily radio use according to the survey, which was presented at the recent IFA show in Berlin.�

The average the listening time is 29 minutes, and Media Broadcast says this is the first time digital radio has topped cable, satellite and IP-based radio models, according to inside-handy.de.�

DAB + is currently most frequently used in Hesse, where the listening rate is already 20%; Bayern, Saxony, Thuringia and Saxony-Anhalt are at 18%. At the end of 2016, approximately 110 stations were available.�
