Italy’s AGCOM Approves Further Expansion of DAB+

Club DAB Italy has budgeted for a plan that would gradually extend service in areas not yet covered

ROME�Italy�s Board of the Authority for the Communications (AGCOM) has approved two resolutions regarding digital radio.

The first amending Regulation 664/09 / CONS concerns the continuing expansion of DAB+ in Italy and introduced some new features regarding the release of rights to use the frequencies by network operators. This will allow the service to start in areas of already dense radio service.

The second proposes the planning of a large area of the center and south of the country. In particular, after a brief consultation, they released the rights of use for upcoming local and national in the following areas: Lazio, Campania, Basilicata, Calabria and Sicily (excluding the provinces of Enna, Caltanissetta and Ragusa)

The new plan will cover about 30% of the Italian population. When added to the coverage already in service, DAB + service will be available to more than 42% of the population.
