MANCHESTER, England� Major engineering work was carried out on Manchester DAB muxes overnight on May 25 and digital radio users there have been urged to �rescan� their radios as a result.
The work included changing frequencies of existing transmitters, in some cases raising power (at Winter Hill) and the turn-up of two new transmitters (one in Littleborough and one at Saddleworth) which will provide coverage of the area�s 11 local stations to an additional 400,000 potential listeners.
A number of the region’s top presenters gathered at the Hilton on the morning of May 25 to press the big green retune switch to signal the importance for listeners to retune their DAB digital radios to continue to receive to all of Manchester�s local stations on DAB, according to key103.co.uk.�
The re-scan will enable those listeners in the new expansion areas to receive local radio stations on DAB for the first time. Rescanning is a simple process: Listeners simply press the auto tune or auto scan button on their DAB digital radio or go into the radio�s menu and press auto tune.
The new digital transmission facilities have been built by communications infrastructure companyArqivaand are part of an industry and government program of work that aims to expand the coverage and listening to digital radio.
