Media Broadcast Completes Sale of VHF Infrastructure in Germany

And the first DAB+ license has been awarded in Austria

BERLIN and VIENNA� Germany’s Media Broadcast has found buyers for all of its VHF transmitter sites around the country, and said the transactions mark the completion of the sale of its VHF infrastructure in Germany, reports telecompaper.com. Henceforth, it will focus its efforts on digital transmission platforms for radio and television. All parties involved in these transactions have agreed to remain silent on the financial details of the entire sale process.

The company said it will work closely with the purchasers and other parties involved in ensuring seamless transitions in broadcasting operations, which should all occur by the end of March 2018. Media Broadcast will continue to offer services in transmitter technology, antenna maintenance and network services.

Austrian regulator RTR has awarded the first license for DAB+ digital radio to the technology provider RTG Radio Technikum, which, starting April 3, will broadcast�11 DAB+ radio channels in the territory of Vienna and environs, also according to telecompaper.com. The technology will provide coverage will to about 2.25 million people, and the license term is 10 years.

Digitalradio Austria�Managing Director Matthias Gerwinat said, “This marks an important milestone for the further development of the Austrian radio market, for which the members of the Digital Radio Austria Association have made intensive efforts in recent years.�The next milestone after this first important network in Eastern Austria will then be the national expansion of digital radio throughout Austria,� quoted from an article in ots.at.

DAB+ digital radio has been available in Austria since May 2015, with testing occurring in Vienna since that time.�
