NAB says IBOC Booster Project Advancing

Oct 7, 2009 3:00 PM

NAB‘s Tech Check publication reports that the first two stages of a project to develop on-channel digital booster technology for FM in-band/on-channel (IBOC) digital radio have now been completed. Undertaken by Ibiquity Digital, the development program is receiving additional funding from NAB’s Fastroad program.

On-channel digital booster technology, based on digital single frequency network technology, would allow localized synchronous retransmission of just the digital components of an IBOC Hybrid FM signal, in order to augment marginal signal zones within a station’s coverage area.

A technical report describing the results of laboratory testing of the technology is available online. The full text report and information on NAB’s FASTROAD technology advocacy program are available at www.nabfastroad.org.
