Netherlands Taps Radioscape for DAB Infrastructure Replacement

Dutch Telecom provider KPN says it has selected UK-based RadioScape as its vendor for replacement of that nation’s existing DAB infrastructure. The company’s new Eureka 147 encoding/multiplexing architecture is said to be completely IP-driven and supports a number of advanced features, including 5.1 surround, slideshows, traffic/navigation, electronic program guides (EPG) and DAB+.

Holland’s current DAB multiplex, which went on line in 2005, provides a maximum of 12 DAB- only channels populated primarily by Netherlands Public Broadcasting (NPO).

According to a RadioScape press release the new systems should be ready for air immediately following a six-week test and evaluation period.
