AMSTERDAM The Ministry of Economic Affairs for the Netherlands will soon auction 31 digital radio licenses. The government will also continue with its digitalization policy for commercial radio broadcasting in the next few years. It should be noted that all current licenses will be renewed for five years, in-line with the wishes of the Lower House of Parliament, according to telecompaper.
The extra digital radio spectrum will become available in the digital layer four of band III, where regional public broadcasters, non-national commercial broadcasters and commercial mid-wave broadcasters work together. These frequencies may go to newcomers, or to existing stations that want to broadcast more or in with a higher audio quality.
All licensing decisions are in preparation, with public consultation and response analysis.
