Radio’s Digital Leap Conference Scheduled for June in Oslo

Conference will focus on Norway’s decision to fully digitalize radio, but also on similar initiatives in other countries

OSLOA conference on the future of radio in Europe will be held June 11in Oslo. Radios Digital Leap will take place in Thon Hotell Opera, next to Oslo Central Railway Station (Oslo S).

Radios Digital Leap will focus on Norways decision to fully digitalize radio, but also on similar initiatives in other countries. The governments announcement to switch off FM has attracted unparalleled interest internationally, according toRadio.no.

A lot of people want to know and understand more of what happens in Norway, and why a relatively small northern country now takes the lead in a major switchover. This is the main reason for why we are organizing this conference, said Ole Jrgen Torvmark, CEO of Digital Radio Norway, the organizer of the event. Radio as a medium faces a lot of challenges in a digitalized environment, and most people realize that we cannot put all our eggs in the internet basket to gain a secure, predictable and widely available digital future for radio. A transition to DAB is important to the industry, but also a challenging exercise that demands facilitation from governments and effected industries such as the auto industry. I believe that a lot of people have an interest in learning how big countries with 60-80 million people will make the leap to digital.

Many industry heavyweights are scheduled to speak at the event, including Norwegian Broadcasting Corporations General Director Thor Gjermund Eriksen; CEOs Trygve Rnningen of P4 and Lasse Kokvik of SBS Radio; Christian Vogg, EBUs Head of Radio; Danish Radios Director of Radio Tor Arnbjrn; Staffan Rosell, of Swedens biggest private radio group SBS Radio; Ford Ennals, CEO, Digital Radio UK; and Marcel Regnotto, head of media services, Federal Office of Communication, Switzerland.
