Clear Channel Betas New iHeartRadio

Customizable stations among web and mobile app’s new and improved features

The great media convergence took another step forward today with the beta release of the New iHeartRadio web and mobile radio app.

The lead feature touted in a news release is “customizable stations.” That means a user can create his own personal radio station by picking through Clear Channel Radio’s vast song library. Users of many web radio music services might find that feature more than a little familiar. Clear Channel pegs its song library at 11 million songs and 400,000 artists, “more than 10 times the number of songs offered by Pandora,” it noted in the release.

Additional goodies include more social media tools, “better” music intelligence for predicting what else a user might “like” and song rotation controls. The apps still provides access to Clear Channel’s radio station empire along with its syndicated program list. On mobile devices iHeartRadio is available for iPhone/iPad, BlackBerry, Android and Windows Phone 7 platforms.

President and CEO of Clear Channel Radio John Hogan said: “The New iHeartRadio advances our strategy of being everywhere our listeners expect us to be… It also serves our partners in the music industry by increasing our commitment to new music and music discovery and will provide our advertising partners with yet another powerful vehicle to enhance their marketing plans.”
