Kansas City, Here They Come

Community radio professionals gather in Kansas City

Playing on the theme “Prairie Fire,” the 2011 Grassroots Radio Conference will take place in Kansas City, Mo., Aug. 18–21, at the All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church.

Radio professionals and community activists will present a dozen or so sessions on topics like program production techniques, using social networking for station promotion and building a radio station in prison. Several sessions are organized around the theme of “Social Change through Radio.” Given recently regulatory changes, LPFM promises to be a hot topic for attendees.

Announced conference speakers are Sylvia Richardson, producer of the “Latin Waves” radio program on CJSF(FM) in Burnaby, B.C.; Loris Ann Taylor, president of Native Public Media; and JR Valrey, minister of information for Prisoners of Conscience.
