NPR and KPBS(FM) San Diego got a $1 million gift this week to boost its local journalism and its news collaboration with NPR.
The organizations said the gift will be used to create a Joan and Irwin Jacobs Fund for Reporting Excellence, named for the KPBS donors. Goals are to find and train new journalists for public radio and develop new methods of sharing and distributing digital editorial content.
Joan and Irwin Jacobs have been donors to KPBS for 36 years. Past gifts have helped build Jacobs Studio B in the KPBS Copley Telecommunications Center and the KPBS/FM radio studio. Irwin Jacobs founded Qualcomm.
