The Senate Commerce Committee passed a bill that sets a hard date of April 7, 2009 for TV broadcasters to return their analog spectrum. The bill now goes to the full Senate for a vote.
An amendment offered by former chairman of the committee, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., to move the date up to 2007 failed, according to the committee.
Several issues were removed from this legislation. Reuters reported Commerce Committee Chairman Ted Stevens, R-Alaska, was planning to begin working on another bill, including a broadcast flag provision, next week.
