WorldDAB Forum Develops Electronic Program Guide for Eureka-147 Radios

The European Technical Standards Institute approved an Electronic Program Guide standard for use with Eureka-147 digital radios. The standard, developed by a task force of the World DAB Forum, allows broadcasters to send program details to EPG-enabled receivers. Listeners can highlight program information on their radio, listen in real time, record in real time or set the radio to record later. The standard will support a download of up to two weeks worth of program schedules, according to the World DAB Forum, which markets the Eureka-147 technology.
Radio groups have been testing EPG data since 2004. Manufacturers such as RadioScape have developed EPG receiver chipsets. RadioScape and Ensigma demoed EPG technology at IBC in September, according to the marketing group.
Ensigma’s technology is available via the “Bug” digital radio using a software download at www.thebug.com.
