Old Dominion Site of Ownership Hearing

The Richmond Convention Center will be the site of an FCC field hearing on broadcast ownership rules on Feb. 27, beginning at 10 a.m. The purpose of the hearing is to give the general public another opportunity to voice its opinions about broadcast ownership rules.
Agency Chairman Michael Powell has said the commission has a limited budget it can use to send staff to locations away from the Washington area, therefore the Richmond event is the only FCC-sanctioned event.
Commissioner Michael Copps is organizing two additional ownership concentration hearings in Seattle and Durham, N.C. He has also called for those who fear retribution if they speak out to file their comments anonymously.
Chairman Powell says at 13,000 comments filed by organizations and citizens on the topic, an extensive record that has already been accumulated.
