ABC Closes on 1050 in NYC

ABC Inc. said it has closed on the purchase of New York station 1050 WEVD(AM) from the Forward Association.
“The station will continue to program its full-time ESPN Radio Sports format, as it has since ABC signed the station on in a 2001 local marketing agreement,” it stated.
The station will continue to identify itself as “1050 ESPN” but the call letters have been changed to WEPN.
The company said it exercised a purchase option on an accelerated timeline due to the success of the station.
“Although 1050 ESPN’s local lineup has been in place for only two rating periods, in the recently released winter Arbitron ratings, ‘The Michael Kay Show’ (10 a.m. – 1p.m.) became the highest rated sports/talk show in its target demo (25-34 men) in its time slot.”
