Alpha Media Active in Station Acquisitions

Acquisition-minded group tops the buyer list in a slower year overall for transactions

Alpha Media takes the top three slots — and four of the top 10 — in a list of most expensive U.S. radio ownership transactions of the first half.

We reported yesterday that the overall value of station sales this year is lagging compared to the first half of last year, as are the number of stations sold.

So Radio World asked BIA/Kelsey to itemize the biggest deals of the year to date for our readers. The chart is below.

Alpha Media, based in Portland, Ore., was formed as Alpha Broadcasting by Larry Wilson. In 2012, L & L Broadcasting was established and began acquiring stations. In 2014, L & L Broadcasting and Alpha Broadcasting merged, creating Alpha Media. Its website says that including pending transactions, Alpha Media will own 135 radio stations in 28 markets “and is continuing to grow.”
