Attendees Ask FCC About Final IBOC Rules

Commissioner Jonathan Adelstein told attendees of the FCC Breakfast at the NAB Radio Show in Dallas that discussions about public interest obligations for the HD2 channels are still holding up the agency’s final authorization for multicasting.
He said action on the final IBOC authorization is “imminent.”
New Commissioner Robert McDowell suggested that perhaps, as HD Radio gets off the ground those considerations could be set aside for awhile. He also said he’s still getting up to speed about media issues.
Panel Moderator Bonneville exec. Bruce Reese said he doesn’t know any broadcaster who wouldn’t want to do the same public interest obligations on their supplemental channels as they do on their main digital channel.
