Copps Blasts FCC Over Indecency

FCC Commissioner Michael Copps is not happy that the agency hasn’t finished its investigation of an indecency complaint against Infinity-owned WNEW(FM) in New York.
One year ago, the station aired an “Opie & Anthony” show that allegedly contained a broadcast of sexual activity at St. Patrick’s Cathedral as part of an on-air stunt. The commission received lots of complaints about the broadcast.
As a result, Infinity cancelled the show and the hosts have not been on the air since.
Because a determination is not out yet, Copps says the agency “is not serious” about enforcement. The Democrat has pushed for stronger penalties against stations that violate the indecency or obscenity rules.
