Court Upholds Closure Of Berkeley Pirate

FCC officials are pleased a court in California has upheld the agency’s position against one of the original pirate broadcasters, Stephen Dunifer. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit says Dunifer has no grounds to challenge the FCC order to shut down so-called “Radio Free Berkeley,” because Dunifer never applied for a license.
The court affirmed the FCC’s power to license stations.
Dunifer intends to continue efforts on behalf of low-power supporters, according to published accounts.
